Circle of Light - Energy to lift the world's poor out of darkness

Kitalale
Number of CoL homes: 288
Kitalale resides on relatively flat terrain and experiences a tropical climate most of the year. It is primarily a migrant community, with a mix of people from the Sabaot, Turukana, Kissi, Nandi and Luyha tribes. A hardworking community, most work as farmers and grow corn (the primary crop), beans, cabbages and tomatoes. Because farming flourishes in this area, the community has a secure food source and does not experience famine or have much hunger.

Since the launch of Circle of Light (CoL) in June of 2004, many community members have accepted Jesus Christ and received salvation. The CoL Christian Training Center is used for worship services on Sundays, and the CoL lighting system/battery is used to power the public-address system during the service. CoL also has increased environmental consciousness in community members, who have each planted a number of trees near their homes.

The Kitalale Christian Training Center also is used for meetings for the community's Table Banking Initiative, which provides small financial support to people who are CoL members. The initiative helps individuals with seed money to start up small businesses or to grow their current financial endeavours.

Community prayer requests:

  • Nights in Kitalale are dangerous because burglaries and even murders occur on a regular basis. Pray for protection and peace, so that people can feel safe and secure once again.
  • Pray for further training for local church pastors, including the provision of Christian literature.
  • Kitalale needs a local medical clinic and medical professionals to provide services at an affordable price.
  • While children have access to education, the available facilities and resources, like updated textbooks and lab equipment, are lacking. Pray that facilities will be improved and that more resources are dedicated so that children can receive a higher quality of education.
  • There is a great need for clean, safe drinking water.
