The community of Chepsiro is located in the beautiful Cheranganyi Hills. Circle of Light (CoL) launched its ministry in Chepsiro in December of 2003. Most of the population (about 10,000) is from the Nandi tribe. A large farming community, corn and beans are its major crops.
Known as a kind community, the people in this area show great unity and cooperation with one another in times of challenge and contribute to one another through acts of service and material/financial means. They also show great solidarity in times of joy, coming together for weddings and other community ceremonies to celebrate together. Yet, progression on some project activities, like the CoL program and other community initiatives are sluggish.
One community initiative that is growing is the Faulu [success] Kenya Micro-Finance Project. Community members can apply for loans to start small businesses, pay for farming materials/tools. Interested parties meet near the Energy Store to get information and fill out applications.
Community prayer requests:
- Pray that strong Christian leaders will step forward to help guide the community in creating more project initiatives—like the Faulu Kenya Micro-Finance Project—to help improve quality-of-life.
- Membership to the Energy Store is slow; pray for excitement and increased involvement in Circle of Light.
- While Chepsiro children have access to education, the available facilities and resources, like updated textbooks and lab equipment, are lacking. Pray that facilities will be improved and that more resources are dedicated so that children can receive a higher quality of education.
- Most in the area claim Christianity as their religion. However, there is a great need for discipleship and training for people to mature in their faith.
- There is a great need for clean, safe drinking water.
